Jay Inslee wins debate!

Kate S. responds to McKenna.

Rob McKenna claims he won last week’s debate with Jay Inslee.  As part of the live audience, I have to acknowledge that I was impressed with Rob McKenna’s preoccupation with trying to uncover questions that Inslee could not have possibly had the time to answer to McKenna’s satisfaction.  McKenna was apparently preoccupied with this tactic because his own message was so repugnant and his desire was to avoid expounding upon it.

McKenna Blames homeowners for finacial crisis

Initially, Rob McKenna appeared to be blaming homeowners for the financial crisis.  He asked Inslee if he regrets his congressional votes to make it easier to obtain loans with poor credit.  Inslee explained that he actually had opposed financial industry deregulation back in the Clinton years.  Inslee went on to say that the Romney-McKenna view of life “is that we have problems because of homeowners, not Wall Street.  I have a fundamentally different view.”

Rob McKenna wants to take it easy on polluters

Rob McKenna also argued for the relaxation of environmental regulations as he was concerned about the costs and consequences that such regulations posed for businesses.  Jay Inslee effectively retorted that lowering our standards, or going down to the federal standards, “might be fit for Mississippior or Arkansas, but they’re not fit for our state.”

Having moved to Washington State in large part to escape the environmental degradation of the south, I would certainly hope we would not be lowering our environmental standards in accordance with their standards!  I was thrilled to come to a place where you could actually drink the tap water and not have to perpetually read about entire neighborhoods of people coming down with leukemia or other conditions linked to toxic waste that had been mysteriously dumped nearby.

Rob McKenna blocking healthcare reform

Despite the tremendous number of Washingtonians that lack health care coverage, Rob McKenna also voiced his opposition to the Affordable Care Act, an act that he legally challenged. McKenna stated that his primary concern was the health insurance mandate.  Inslee voiced his disappointment “that our attorney general has tried to take every single one of those rights away from Washingtonians” that the Affordable Care Act was to provide.

Despite McKenna’s attempts to divert Jay Inslee’s message, Inslee’s concern for the citizens, rather than corporate special interests, was clearly apparent and eloquently communicated throughout the debate.  Thus, McKenna’s assertion that he somehow won the debate is obviously unfounded. — Kate S.

Below is Rob McKenna’s email claiming a debate win.  Perhaps he thought it was a contest to the most annoying.

Debate Win!
Tuesday night was the first gubernatorial debate between Rob and his opponent Congressman Jay Inslee – and Rob showed that he is the candidate with better ideas about how to improve our state. Rob gave detailed ideas from his plan for a New Direction for Washington State, while Congressman Inslee offered little beyond the same failed policies and political talking points that the politics-as-usual crowd in Olympia loves.

Tuesday’s debate was further proof that Rob McKenna has the vision and experience to shake up the status quo and get our state moving forward again. You can watch the whole thing here.

Upcoming Event With Jeb Bush – June 27

As a member of our Campaign Team, we are offering you a chance to win tickets to attend an upcoming event with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.  Space is limited, and we only have a few spots left!

You can enter a raffle to win a free ticket to the event at TICKET.  Raffle tickets are only $5, and you can purchase as many raffle tickets as you would like.  Gov. Bush is a leader in education reform, so this will be a great opportunity to hear about the successful ideas he championed to improve outcomes for kids in Florida.

Volunteer Events Across Washington

This campaign is going to be won with the hard work and support of our campaign team.  We have had record turnouts for our volunteer events with hundreds of Team McKenna volunteers knocking on doors and making phone calls.  Please keep up the momentum and attend our upcoming events!  Sign up to learn when the next event is at www.RobMcKenna.org/action.

Keep Building Momentum

With Tuesday’s debate win and the Team McKenna enthusiasm for our campaign continuing to grow, Rob is closer than ever to winning this election.  But, we cannot let up.  Our opponent is well funded, and ex-Congressman Inslee and the special interest groups will be attacking Rob over the next five months.
